A few days ago I read a quotation from Bertran Russell which I couldn´t agree more and I wanted to share...
"The fundamental cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt." Bertrand Russell
I didn´t know much about this philosopher but I am gonna start to find out more. I also found the following sentence from him which I found very interesting:
"Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education."Bertrand Russell
Regarding the education thing, a while ago I found this speech from Sir. Ken Robinson at ted.com which opened my eyes and made me be quite interested in that topic. If I ever find some free time I will try to post a little bit more in depth about this as I find it fascinating.
Schools kill creativity. Enjoy the speech!
I am sorry for the lack of mails lately but I have been swamped with work during the last couple of weeks. I have been helping my friends at Kotoc with a a promotional clip of the Champions League final match. I have served as Director of Photography as well as doing the key lighting. I had almost forgotten about the tight deadlines and the long hours when working for TV compared to working in films. We have accomplished the clip in 12 days although thankfully the stadium and the main character was almost done from previous promos.
Did I ever mention how inspiring mr. Catmull is? I strongly believe that Mr. Catmull is one of the smartest guys alive and I really admire his vision about managing a creative company as Pixar. The video is a little bit long but absolutely worth to watch.
Here you have one of the shorts of the project "Phillips parallel lines" that I mentioned a few days ago. The VFX were made by some colleagues in a little boutique in Barcelona called Big Lazy Robot (http://www.biglazyrobot.com), those guys rock!
It seems that Warner and Fox are very interested in making a full length movie of the film. I hope they will do it because I, definitely want to see more!
Philips is collaborating with RSA Films, (Ridley Scott Associates) to produce Parallel Lines, a follow up to the Carousel short film project designed to launch the Philips Cinema 21:9 television. Philips chose the five most groundbreaking treatments on the Parallel Lines theme from submissions by 45 directors in the RSA fold. The films, to be released in April 2010, explore the most popular genres of filmmaking including drama, action, animation, sci-fi and thriller, and were shot on location in Uruguay, London, Moscow, China and South Africa.
The five films will be released online atwww.philips.com/cinemaon 8th April 2010. The films will be shown using the Philips’ ‘Ambiplayer’ – a special online media player which recreates the effect of Philips’ unique Ambilight technology, plus picture quality and sound quality of Philips TVs. The Ambiplayer will have special interactive features allowing users to interact with the immersive light, picture and sound experience.
For those who missed the Carousel short film project you can watch it here. I was blown away when I saw the film, you must check it out.
This video was published a while ago but I still want to share it here in case somebody missed it. This is one of the most inspiring CG videos ever. The autor is a Spaniard called Alex Roman and he did the whole thing by himself during spare time which is, if possible, even more impressive.
Every single frame is a master piece and a delight to watch. Playing it in HD is fully recommended. Enjoy!
